CONCEPTUAL EDITORIAL ART DIRECTION

L'ODYSSÉE DU STYLE — CONCEPTUAL EDITORIAL DESIGN FOR A BOOK-OBJECT

Our challenge was to transform an essay on style and self-revelation into a Book-Object that transcends the written word. We created a conceptual object designed as a mirror, moving beyond conventional editorial formats to create an immediate, tactile confrontation with the reader’s self-perception.

Open book view of L’Odyssée du Style, designed by Hank Studio, with a reflective silver mirror finish across the cover and introductory pages.

The Project: L’Odyssée du Style by Astrid Eckelmans is an intimate exploration where clothing acts as a catalyst for metamorphosis and a bridge between appearance and authenticity. The ambition was clear: to create an object that one displays as much as one reads.

The mirror cover, conceived as an echo of the concept of introspection, places the reader face-to-face with their own reflection, a simple yet powerful device. Inspired by Lacan’s theories on the mirror stage and the formation of the self, this conversational object captivates and provokes thought.

Hank Studio provided the Creative Direction, Design, and full Production to execute this unique vision, ensuring the book is a Sensory and Reflective Experience that engage the reader on an emotional level.

The Book-Object: Production as Concept. Our Creative Direction focused on ensuring the physical object was a mirror of the concept. This required managing a production process centré sur l'intégrité du design pour garantir l'exécution de notre vision.

Immersive Editorial Design: The book is built around a balance of elegance and subversion. We delivered an execution that included refined typography, striking illustrations, and a layout that plays with space and silence, where every detail is designed to visually convey the depth of the message.

By elevating the work into a compelling Book-Object, L'Odyssée du Style successfully established the author's authority and provided a unique, enduring piece for the secteur de l'édition d'art.
