Designing an archival, collectible object that transcends the scientific record, capturing the emotional and visual weight of a decades-old mineral collection. The challenge was to transform an inventory into an enduring art book, where form and content speak the same language.
Our Fine Print Editorial Design approach for the Collezione di Giuliano Galeotti aimed to create a hybrid object: an art book and a catalogue raisonné. The goal was to preserve the collection's unity while reflecting its emotional weight and visual richness.
The art direction is restrained, drawing from contemporary museum design. We used a deliberate layout rhythm, alternating white space and full-page photographs to highlight the material presence of each specimen.
The book is housed in a sober, custom-made case, conceived as a protective shell that reinforces its precious, archival quality.
We handled the entire process, from concept development to print production, ensuring consistency and quality at every stage.
Multiple paper stocks and printing techniques (spot varnish, custom case) were selected to create subtle shifts in texture and tone, echoing geological layers and crystalline structures.
Result: Designed to endure, this book acts as both a memory of the collection and a standalone object, reflecting a broader gesture of preservation and quiet admiration.
