THE THERAPEUTIC POWER OF CLOTHING
An Introspection Through Clothing
L’Odyssée du Style by Astrid Eckelmans is more than just an essay on fashion. It is an intimate exploration where clothing becomes a tool for transformation, a bridge between appearance and authenticity. Far from being a mere ornament, it acts as a self-revealing agent, a catalyst for metamorphosis.
Drawing from her experience as a stylist and image consultant, Astrid illustrates her insights through personal stories and testimonials. Her sensitive approach turns clothing into an emotional language, a therapy that allows individuals to reconnect with their true identity.
A Book-Object Designed as a MirrorFrom the outset, the ambition was clear: to make L’Odyssée du Style an object that transcends the written word, a piece that one displays as much as one reads. Breaking away from conventional editorial formats, the book stands out with a bold aesthetic that immediately engages the reader.
The mirror cover, conceived as an echo of the concept of introspection, places the reader face-to-face with their own reflection. A simple yet powerful device: here, the act of reading becomes a confrontation with oneself, a mise en abyme where identity takes shape throughout the pages. Inspired by Lacan’s theories on the mirror stage and the formation of the self, this conversational object captivates and provokes thought.
An Immersive Editorial DesignThe book is built around a balance of elegance and subversion. A refined typography, delicate yet striking illustrations, and a layout that plays with space and silence—every detail is designed to visually convey the depth of the message.

A Sensory and Reflective Experience
More than just an essay, L’Odyssée du Style is an immersion. A work that invites the reader to slow down, to ask questions, to interact with their own image. It does not merely narrate—it engages. An invitation to rediscover oneself through clothing, where each page becomes a reflection, a projection, a revelation.

The Swiss binding, exposing the sewing thread, subtly evokes textiles and reinforces the connection between the book and clothing. The red thread used in the binding echoes the red tones found in the illustrations, creating a strong visual and symbolic coherence. The selected papers and textures contribute to a sensory experience, making the object as pleasant to touch as it is to read.
